Nice post! Really refocuses me today on the abundance of the great client relationships and outcomes I have built. Two different moms have now cried when they talked about how my teaching changed their child's life and their life in the process. That feeds me. It wipes away imposter syndrome. Thinking always about doing the best for one's small list of clients is what has built my credibility also in my field (dyslexia tutoring). I have 2500 now on my list...Just doubled it through my annual October dyslexia summit. Now I can work my list all through next year, getting to know the folks because its not too overly large, but big enough to give me a playground for helping more people and having some fun together.
Perfectly timed... this is how I always ran my bricks and mortar office.... the tendency is to think all of a sudden you need to ramp up to be successful online. Thank you George for your wisdom. When I read this I could feel ease coming into my heart and a recognition, something I knew but was doubting myself about.
This is a great post! I like qualify more than quantity and so this is naturally aligned. Helpful to have affirmation from someone with depth and experience 🙌
Exactly what I've naturally been doing since the beginning.... but so much unnecessary suffering has come from swallowing the mainstream business message that to be a 'real' business I had to figure out a different way than what's fun, easy, organic for me. It's really affirming to see it named by someone mega experienced as a valid and powerful and wise path -- and I know that just 10X-ing my commitment and devotion to exactly this is absolutely my path to 'success'. That commitment along with my capacity vow are 🗝.
Thank you, George. As someone devoted to depth and soul-centered work, I’ve often felt the pressure to ‘grow bigger’—to stretch beyond what feels true for my nervous system and my calling. Your reminder that a small, genuine circle is not only valuable but enough feels like medicine. Deep gratitude for articulating this truth.
Great post - thank you for sharing and for highlighting the value of smaller audiences and deeper connections. I think the approach and mindset you describe here, is also a powerful antidote to the trap of perfectionism. Much appreciated!
Great piece George, I really enjoyed it. What arises in me as I read is thinking about how in one of our business streams--the IT staffing--lately we have been choosing small-to-medium size clients that are like-minded and sometimes even like-hearted, rather than the usual 'go big or go home' prevalent in that industry. And that we love that sort of 'cottage' or 'boutique' feel to the work we are doing. Your piece sparked further conversation on this topic. Something else that arises is that over the years some of my offerings have seemed not to grow any bigger, and I now believe that in fact the universe was supporting me with that, i.e. those were times I wouldn't have had personal capacity for the various pieces to expand, even if I thought that was my wish. Maybe some businesses and projects are meant to scale huge. That's fine. But a lot of that 'go big or go home' thing is a hangover from empire, dysfunctional crony shareholder-value-only corporatism, and probably a few other things.
I needed this reframe & reminder deeply, thank you George. It's been a few years since I've tuned in deeply to your content because ... life ... and yet you are a steadfast embodiment of someone sharing true, deep, resonant ideas that add value consistently over time. Thank you for who you are and for modeling your insights so tangibly ✨
This is the antidote to success = millions of followers. I was in a mastermind group that claimed to help business owners create work life balance but the formula was really for creating huge followings and large businesses. Sure, they had $500k to multi million dollar businesses, but behind the scenes people I talked to that manifested their bug businesses were miserable. They were far from feeling freedom and balance. They were overworked and trapped serving their audience
, hiring and firing, and grinding to keep it all together. It was helpful to see behind the curtain and realize this wasn’t aligned for me. And I love the whole reframe you presented as it clearly details the inner wisdom I hadn’t yet put to words. Thanks George!
Thanks Robin!🙏🏼 I too have spoken to many colleagues over to years who secretly confided how stuck they feel with their big business and wished for a small but profitable one that allowed a lot more spaciousness. Social media constantly praises the big... so easy to get sucked into that mindset!
Brilliant. Just reading the title causes a huge breath of release......thank you so much, and a grateful bow from my heart, soul and nervous system.
