A child development specialist told me today we need to practice regulation strategies when we are not under the gun because when adrenaline starts pumping we need the habits for self-regulation to kick in automatically as habits. We won't be so conscious during panic time. We won't necessarily be able to tell ourselves: take a deep breath. It has to be trained into our nervous system. When I feel uncomfortable, tightness in my chest, irritationI, nervousness, whatever is the lesser form of full blown sadness, anger or fear, I do (this). Practicing over and over creates the possibility the tools will kick in when the s hits the f.

Intercepting, over and over again, and choosing a different approach. Makes so much sense, especially when you consider how neuroplasticity works - gotta walk that new path a few times before it becomes more natural 😎
